Kathy Deggendorfer
Kathy lives on a cattle and hay ranch just outside of Sisters, Oregon on the eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains. Her studio is in Sisters at Sisters Art Works. Inspired by the color and texture of her surroundings her vibrant and colorful watercolor paintings are whimsical representations of ranch life. Magpies snacking on the cat food and mule deer grazing on the petunias- all end up as models in her paintings.
Kathy’s paintings are often referred to as “Painter’s Quilts". Kathy was chosen to create the 2007, 2011 and 2012 Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show Posters and has a line of quilting fabrics from “In The Beginning Fabrics”. Rich with color and pattern, Kathy’s work is collected throughout the Pacific Northwest and is featured on clothing by Columbia Sportswear. She has work in the permanent collections at Roberts Field Municipal Airport in Redmond, Oregon and at Brasada Ranch Resort, and St. John Medical Center in Longview Washington, just to name a few. In 2008 Kathy was selected to create the Oregon State Ornament for the White House Christmas Tree and in 2009 was a featured artist on Oregon Art Beat. Her image “Coming Home” was featured as the cover of the 2010 OPB calendar.
Kathy has a line of custom tiles and tile murals done in collaboration with Kibak Tile in Sisters, Oregon. She just finished a 24 foot tile mural for the new Cancer Center at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, Oregon check the Blog post for a great little video about it.
Kathy's show about Oregon Farms- artist meets artisan farmer-- was showcased at the High Desert Museum, Bend Oregon, in the fall of 2014. Her one woman show called " Painting Oregon's Harvest: The Art of Kathy Deggendorfer" opened August 29 , 2014 and ran through November of 2014. She has travelled the state of Oregon visiting working farms,fisheries, orchards, vineyards, and ranches documenting through an artist’s eye what makes Oregon such a special place for food production. Now the show will continue to travel throughout the state of Oregon with stops in Portland and in Southern Oregon scheduled for 2016. Stay tuned for dates and locations!
